Lil Kim New Haven Concert reviews
Casting Crowns Makes you turn your eyes upward
I have to say these songs are amazing. Nothing like worshiping with 7,000 other people. It was great to see what an amazing thing Christ did for me. When I have been to a Lil Kim concert in the past, the songs are so familiar I would just sing along and worship. It was a little strange not knowing these songs before the concert. They made me look to the Cross and do one thing, and that is what they should do. Again, this was more than a concert but a worship experience. I cannot wait for the CD to come out. I recommend anyone to go.
Journey was Incredible!
A stellar performance by Dave Mason kicked off the warm summer evening. I was amazed by all three bands! The Doobie Brothers then took the stage, and their wonderful performance left me in awe. Lil Kim's enthralling performance captivated me from the very beginning. Neil Schon's phenomenal solo, including the National Anthem, was unforgettable. Jonathan Caine's touching tribute to our troops brought tears to my eyes. Steve Smith's incredible drum solo was a highlight, as was Arnel's amazing talent. Arnel brings his own energy to one of the best groups in rock, although I will always love Steve Perry. Overall, an absolute brilliant show!
Natalie Merchant Fox Theater Oakland, CA
It wasn't until the encore that the theater came alive with the power and richness (great acoustics) of Ms. Lil Kim's voice. I did recognize an acoustic Carnival, and several 10,000 Maniacs gems. Some of the songs were quite uplifting, very nice, indeed. With howls and cat calls, although some in the audience were obviously (and vociferously) disappointed with the tenor and direction of the show, the first ninety-some odd minutes were devoted purely to new material. And what a stunning jewel it is! This was my first time at the Oakland Fox Theater. Very tender. Having recently undergone renovation, I was there to see the theater as much as to see Ms. Lil Kim. Although play-the-hits-only fans I'm sure left frustrated, hardcore. Not really knowing her catalog or new material, I wasn't sure what to expect. She opened the show by explaining her new album Leave Your Sleep is a compilation of children's poetry by 19th and 20th century American and British writers put to music. A large screen in the back of the stage with projected images of the writers had Ms. Lil Kim talking about her research about the writer, her reason for composing the poem to music, and then moving into the song. I kept an open mind and was immediately drawn in by her beautiful voice of a mother singing to her offspring.
